# Update a phone number

> Change a number's label, its ring-a-person-first settings, or its active hours.

<Note>
  This endpoint is for the VIP plan only. Other plans get a `403`. See [Plan access](/api-reference/introduction#plan-access).

To change which agent uses the number, use [Give an agent a phone number](/api-reference/agents/assign-phone-number).

  Your label for the number, up to 100 characters.

  Ring a person first, then the agent.

  The person to ring first, in E.164 format.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="fallbackRingDuration" type="integer">
  Seconds to ring the person before the agent answers, 1 to 60.
</ParamField>

<ParamField body="activeHours" type="object | null">
  When to ring the person first, per weekday. `null` uses the workspace office hours.

Send at least one field. Any other field returns `400`.
