# Release a phone number

> Release a number. It leaves the workspace and its monthly billing stops.

  This endpoint is for the VIP plan only. Other plans get a `403`. See [Plan access](/api-reference/introduction#plan-access).

<Warning>
  This cannot be undone. Agents on the number stop answering and calling from it.

The answer is `204` with no body. A number that was already released returns `404`.

## Errors

| Status | When |
| - | - |
| `404` | `Phone number not found`: the number does not exist, or it is not in this API key's scope |
| `500` | The number could not be released. It is still in the workspace. Try again |
