# Update, start or pause a campaign

> Change a campaign's settings, or start or pause it.

  This endpoint is for the VIP plan only. Other plans get a `403`. See [Plan access](/api-reference/introduction#plan-access).

Send only the fields you want to change. The fields are the same as [Create a campaign](/api-reference/campaigns/create), except `workspaceId`. A field we do not know gets a `400`, so a typo never saves the rest of the change without it. A locked workspace cannot change a campaign.

  `live` starts calling, `paused` stops it, `completed` ends it, `draft` takes it back to a draft. Setting `live` adds the contacts in the view right away. The dialer sets `capped` and `out_of_funds`, so you cannot send those.

When a live campaign starts again, or you change its days, hours or timezone, every contact still to be called is checked against the new schedule. If you switch from a fixed timezone back to each contact's own timezone, contacts with no timezone of their own stop, because the campaign can no longer tell when to call them.

## Errors

| Status | When |
| - | - |
| `400` | A field is missing, not valid, or one we do not know. |
| `402` | The account has no plan, or its subscription is not active. |
| `403` | Your plan is not VIP, or the workspace is locked. |
| `404` | The campaign does not exist, or your API key cannot reach it. |
| `500` | The change saved, but a follow-up step failed. The message says what to send again. |
